A 60-year-old resident of Hefei City, Anhui Province, died on June 3, 2016, about a year after he completed an 11-year prison sentence for practicing Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhu Fangming’s prison sentence stemmed from his arrest in 2004. After his wrongful conviction, his wife was unable to cope and divorced him. He was abused in prison and sustained health damage. After he was released in 2015, the police kept harassing him until his passing on June 3, 2016.

Prior to his latest persecution episode, Mr. Zhu was given two and a half years of forced labor following an earlier arrest in 2001. He had a stroke and was unable to walk or eat. The labor camp dumped him at his parents’ home to avoid responsibility. Through studying Falun Gong teachings and doing Falun Gong exercises, he recovered in one month.
