(Minghui.org) Mr. Zhu Yujun from Shulan City, Jilin Province, was sentenced to four years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhu was arrested on June 5, 2024 during a police sweep in which more than 50 other Falun Gong practitioners were arrested. He was given criminal detention at the Shulan City Detention Center. An insider reported seeing him being savagely beaten by two guards. One of the guards said, “This guy refused to answer questions and deserves to be beaten.”
Mr. Zhu was later found to have some heart conditions and was hospitalized for a while. The detention center filed a request to have him released on bail, but the higher agency (exact name unknown) turned it down. The Shulan City Court sentenced him to four years at an unknown time and he was admitted to the Gongzhuling Prison on December 18, 2024. Given his frail health, he was put in the prison hospital. His family was not told about his health or where he was.
This is not the first time that Mr. Zhu was targeted for his faith. Once a former prosecutor of the Shulan City Forestry Procuratorate, he was recognized as a promising young talent by his coworkers. After the persecution began, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in December 1999. He was arrested and given one year of forced labor. He appealed and was fired.
He was arrested again on October 10, 2003 and given an unknown term of forced labor. Due to his poor health, the local labor camp refused to take him five times. When the police tried a sixth time, the labor camp finally admitted him.
After he was released, Mr. Zhu and his wife moved to Jilin City, Jilin Province and opened a deli restaurant. The police arrested Mr. Zhu on October 18, 2013 and took him to the Jilin City Detention Center. He was hospitalized due to the abuse. He was sentenced to five years in September 2015. He was brutally tortured at the Jilin Prison and was hospitalized again. His condition kept worsening after he was released. At one point he was in critical condition but he gradually recovered.
Mr. Zhu later moved back to Shulan City, only to be arrested again on June 5, 2024 and sentenced to four years.
