(Minghui.org) A Fuzhou City, Jiangxi Province, resident has twice been jailed, for a total of seven years, since the Chinese Communist Party ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999. While serving the second term at the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison, she was subjected to savage beatings, sleep deprivation, and involuntary drug administration.
When Ms. Xia Jiping was released on August 9, 2016, she looked haggard and she was often confused, with severe memory loss. She could barely lift her legs, and her knees hurt constantly. All her teeth became loose and she cannot chew properly. Yet the police and community officials continue to harass her at home on a regular basis.

Below, Ms. Xia recounted in detail of the torture she suffered during her second prison term.

I was sentenced to four years by the Linchuan District Court in late December 2012 and was forced to sign the verdict. I appealed, but the appeals court ruled to uphold the original verdict ten days later.
I was transferred from the Fuzhou City Detention Center to the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison in early 2013. The guards forced me to hand-copy the prison rules and later made me stand for long hours beginning at 5 a.m. every day. I was not allowed to go to bed until 2 a.m. They also suspended me from a high window frame and arranged inmates to watch me.
A guard surnamed Yang moved all of my personal things to her office during the three summer months. I was stripped of all daily necessities and had no clothes to change into. I could only wash my underwear before sleep, dry it by my bed side, and put it on the next morning. Sometimes the inmates woke me up in the middle of the night and forced me to start standing. In that case, I had no choice but to wear the damp underwear.
Although the guards said the inmates would be punished if they beat or verbally abused anyone, those who tortured us Falun Gong practitioners were never punished. Instead, the harder they abused us, the more reward they received.
In June 2014, guard Yang Bo ordered me to watch videos smearing Falun Gong, and I refused to comply. In retaliation, Yang hung me up by the wrists from the window frame and taped my mouth. I almost suffocated.

I often cried in pain from the torture. My blood pressure was extremely low, sometimes only 50/30 mmHg (the normal level is around 120/80 mmHg). I also had bruises all over my body and I easily felt dizzy. Yet the guards said it was all normal and didn’t provide any medical attention to me.
Also because of the long-term standing torture, my right leg became very swollen, and other inmates said it looked scary. Because inmate Zhu Jiejie kicked me hard on my leg and feet shortly after my prison admission, I had persistent pain in the dorsum of my feet. I had a hard time keeping my balance while walking and often fell. My knees also hurt badly, especially during rainy days.

Guards Huang Shanyu and Wang Ning put me in an interrogation room on November 6, 2015 and restrained me in a metal chair. Four inmates took turns monitoring me for two days. I was given very little food and only allowed to use the restroom once a day. I had to ask for permission if I needed to use the restroom again. If my voice was deemed loud, the inmates gagged me with a filthy wash cloth. They also forced me to keep my eyes open at night. They pulled my eyelids and slapped me in the face to keep me awake.
On the third day, I was transferred to another room with closed curtains. I was again restrained in a metal chair. The walls of the room were covered with words slandering Falun Gong. They also played the video of my mother crying for me. More than ten inmates took turns monitoring me. Some beat me and some tried to persuade me to submit. When I remained firm in practicing Falun Gong, they handcuffed my hands behind my back and hung me up with my feet off the ground. My arms were severely injured, and even nine years later, my left arm is still weak and can’t hold things.
The most egregious torture was that they sprayed my mouth and nose with unknown drugs. Not long after, a thick layer of brown scars formed around my mouth, and I began to lose my memory. I also struggled with constipation and incontinence.
The drug administration lasted nearly two weeks. At the same time, I was forced to watch videos smearing Falun Gong. I told them that violence could never change my heart.
I later became so weak that I didn’t even have the strength to talk. But I told myself, “I must live.”
