(Minghui.org) The Falun Dafa Information Center held a Human Rights Fair in Washington DC on December 10, 2025, International Human Rights Day. Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) practitioners raised awareness of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) 26-year persecution.

Falun Dafa practitioner Lydia Wang (first on right) described her parents’ suffering during the CCP’s persecution to Rep. Young Kim (first on left) during the Human Rights Fair on December 10, 2025.

Wang Xuan, a former Shen Yun Performing Arts lead dancer, and his sister Lydia Wang, met with Rep. Young Kim and other visitors, and described their parents’ suffering due to the CCP’s persecution. Their father was imprisoned four times for his belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and passed away in September 2009. Their mother, Liu Aihua, is imprisoned in China for her belief.

The portrait of Ms. Liu Aihua was displayed during the event. Ms. Liu, 71 years old, was arrested and imprisoned 11 times during the past 25 years for her persistence in practicing Falun Gong. She has spent over ten years in prison. She was arrested by police from the Xingang Police Station of the Kaifu Branch of the Changsha Municipal Public Security Bureau on July 7, 2022, less than one year after she was released from prison. She was sentenced to four years in prison on March 10, 2023, because she told people Falun Dafa is good and had Dafa books in her home.

Wang Xuan, a former Shen Yun Performing Arts lead dancer, and his sister Lydia Wang, tell a visitor about the CCP’s persecution.

Ms. Lydia Wang said her parents, herself, and her brother started practicing Dafa in 1996. The entire family followed Falun Dafa’s principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. The family was broken after the CCP initiated the persecution in 1999. Ms. Wang was threatened with being locked in a brainwashing center and forced to have an abortion if she did not sign a guarantee statement (promising to stop practicing Falun Gong). She was forced to separate from her older daughter, who was only one year and three months old, get a divorce, and flee China.

“Besides my mother, hundreds of thousands of practitioners are imprisoned and persecuted or even tortured to death,” Ms. Wang said. “I hope that the American government can help stop the CCP’s persecution of Falun Dafa.”

Rep. Young Kim: The U.S. Government Must Exert Pressure on the CCP

Rep. Young Kim of California is chair of the Subcommittee on the Indo-Pacific, the Committee on Foreign Affairs. She said, “I’ve known that Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted for a very long time simply for exercising their religious freedom. The Chinese government is afraid of them because there is a very significant number. They are just exercising and practicing their religion. It’s their way of expressing how they believe their religion. So we just need to keep up with our pressure as much as they do, in cracking down on individuals. We need to speak out and protect their rights, freedom, and dignity.”

She said she hopes more people hear practitioners’ stories—like Ms. Wang’s mother—whether it’s through legislation or through the roundtables. “I think it’s really important that we hear these [stories] because this also gives them hope that Congress is paying attention. The more we hear their stories, the more we will be able to hopefully find some solution for some sort of legislative action.”

She said, “Human rights and freedom are not negotiable. These are fundamental values.”

Making Sure That the Persecution of Falun Dafa Is Heard by the World

A press conference was held at the National Press Club that day. Practitioner Sean Lin said in his speech, “Since 1999, over 70 million Falun Gong practitioners have faced systematic repression. More than 5,000 documented deaths, hundreds of thousands of torture cases... and these numbers barely scratch the surface because the regime hides the true scale. After 26 years of brutality, the persecution continues.”

He mentioned that in 2019, an independent China Tribunal chaired by Sir Geoffrey Nice reached a chilling conclusion: Falun Gong practitioners have been—and continue to be—killed for their organs on a large scale. There are tens of thousands of victims per year.

Sean Lin addressed the press conference held in the National Press Club on December 10.

Sir Geoffrey Nice is also a former part-time judge. He served as a prosecutor in the war crimes trial of former Serbian president Slobodan Milošević at the International Criminal Tribunal in The Hague.

Jeffrey Imm, founder of the Responsible for Equality and Liberty (R.E.A.L.), addressed the press conference.

Jeffrey Imm, founder of the Responsible for Equality and Liberty (R.E.A.L.), said that in 2009, he was involved in an event held outside the Chinese Embassy in remembrance of victims of the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989, and met Falun Gong practitioners there. It was the first time he heard about the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong.

Mr. Imm said about the persecution, “It’s been a pressing issue for us for a long time.

“We’d like to make sure that your issues are heard. We’d like to make sure that the persecution of Falun Dafa is heard by the world. So we’d like to make sure that it’s not just people who are interested in Chinese human rights, but people who are interested in human rights around the world of all kinds,” Mr. Imm said.
