(Minghui.org) A 71-year-old woman became disabled after serving a one-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Mou Yanping, of Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, was arrested at home on August 23, 2018, by officers Ma Yu, Zhang Ji, Sun Tao, Wang Yumin, Li Xiangjun, Jia Mingsheng, Tong Anmu, Liu Yi and Ma of the Bayuquan Domestic Security Office. They confiscated her Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, 14,000 yuan cash, and two DVDs. Her home was in a great mess after the raid.
While held at the Yingkou City Detention Center, Ms. Mou developed severe medical conditions due to abuse and required emergency treatment several times. She was released on bail on September 26, 2018, on the verge of death.
Li Xiangjun, the director of the Bayuquan Domestic Security Office, continued to harass Ms. Mou at home. They also submitted her case to the Bayuquan Procuratorate and the prosecutor deposed her.
Ms. Mou was notified by the Zhanqian District Court on September 10, 2019 that she was scheduled to face trial weeks later on September 23. It’s not clear whether the trial took place as scheduled.
Ms. Mou was deceived by the police into going to the station to answer some questions on December 11, 2019. She went, only to be arrested and admitted to the Yingkou City Detention Center. She received the verdict the next day that she had been sentenced to one year in prison.
The persecution took a toll on Ms. Mou’s health. When she was released on November 4, 2020, her eyes were dull and she had mobility issues on one side of her body. She now walks with a limp and struggles to live on her own.
