(Minghui.org) The Kaili City Court in Guizhou Province sentenced a local woman to four years and fined her 10,000 yuan on November 12, 2025 for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Chen Guolan, around 61, was arrested on her way home at 6 p.m. on December 4, 2024, by officers who had been following her. They targeted her because two people reported her for distributing Falun Gong informational materials on September 8 that year. The police pored over surveillance videos and identified her.
The police raided Ms. Chen’s home and gave her 15 days of detention with a 1,000-yuan fine. They did not release her on the 19th as promised. She was subsequently issued a formal arrest warrant on January 21, 2025.
The Kaili City Procuratorate indicted Ms. Chen on March 20, 2025, and she stood trial at the Kaili City Court on July 15. A guilty verdict was issued on November 12. Ms. Chen is currently appealing the wrongful conviction.
This is not the first time that Ms. Chen, who is either a retired factory worker or teacher (according to various reports), has been targeted for her faith. She was given three years of forced labor in 2005, but was later released on parole due to a malignant uterine tumor.
Ms. Chen was arrested at home on August 15, 2006, by eight officers from the Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture Police Department and the Sansui County Police Department. They took her to the Kaili City Detention Center and later to the Sansui County Detention Center.
On September 13, 2006, Ms. Chen was admitted to the Guizhou Province Women’s Labor Camp to serve a one-year-and-nine-month term. She was found to have multiple uterine tumors and was released on parole in November 2006.
Not long after Ms. Chen returned home, the labor camp notified the Kaili City Police Department to check on whether she was well enough to be taken back into custody. To avoid being arrested, Ms. Chen went into hiding.
In the early morning of September 21, 2007, Ms. Chen was arrested at her rental place in Guiyang (the capital city of Guizhou Province), by officers from the Guizhou Province Public Security Bureau, the Guiyang City Police Department, and the Dayingpo Police Station. Her labor camp term was later extended by three years.
Between 2014 and 2022, Ms. Chen was harassed multiple times by Dashizi Police Station officers. They arrested her at home on September 15, 2022, and detained her for one day.
