(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Xiwang, a small business owner in Tianjin, died on July 18, 2011, eleven days after he was admitted to the Binhai Prison to serve an 8-year wrongful term for his faith in Falun Gong.

Below is a collection of additional information regarding Mr. Li’s death that Minghui.org recently confirmed.

Mr. Li and his wife Ms. Chen Liyan were arrested on December 21, 2010 and held at the Hexi District Detention Center. Mr. Li was later secretly sentenced to eight years in prison. He was first admitted to the Jinxi Prison and then transferred to the Binhai Prison, also known as Gangbei Prison, on July 18, 2011. He died on July 29, 2011, after suffering the “anchor torture.”

Illustrations of the “Anchor Torture”

On the evening of July 28, 2011, guards at the Eighth Division put Mr. Li on the “anchor torture” because he refused to renounce Falun Gong. In this torture, the victim’s feet are kept in metal shoes and his lower body restrained in a metal bucket welded to the ground. Then the guards pull the victim’s arms down and handcuff him to a ring anchored to the floor as well, rendering the victim’s body bent over in a “∧” shape.

This torture position would severely interfere with one’s blood flow and some victims would die within one or two hours. The guards, however, didn’t check on Mr. Li until ten hours later on the early morning of July 29, 2011, when he had already died. The guards who were responsible for his death were He Jiaqi, Huang He and Ge Fan.

This was the second time that Mr. Li was held in the Binhai Prison. He was previously given another eight-year term following an arrest on May 16, 2001. He lost his hearing due to beatings of his head in the Fifth Division. The guards handcuffed his hands to a pole and forced him to face the ground. They put very heavy shackles on his feet and tied them to two poles. One foot was tied at a higher position than the other. He was tortured this way for 28 days. They didn’t expect him to be alive when untying him from the poles. He was released in May 2009, only to be arrested again in less than two years and tortured to death in prison.

The Prison’s Cover-up

Prior to Mr. Li’s death, another practitioner, Mr. Zhu Wenhua, was tortured to critical condition by the Binhai Prison on the evening of July 21, 2010. The prison took him to the Dagang Prison for resuscitation and he was pronounced dead there.

To shirk responsibility about Mr. Zhu’s death, the prison deleted the information regarding his being taken to the Dagang Prison, but changed his medical records to say that he died while being treated for an ailment at a prison-affiliated hospital.

After Mr. Li’s death, the prison became more experienced in covering up the crime. They took his body to the Xinsheng Hospital, which was under the Tianjin Prison Administration Bureau, instead of a regular local hospital. The Xinsheng Hospital then claimed that he died there while being treated for an illness. The prison also “worked with” the Tianjin Procuratorate and Dagang District Procuratorate for an investigation, which concluded that “no foul play was found in Li Xiwang’s death.”
