(Minghui.org) A 72-year-old woman in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, was sent to the Sichuan Province Women’s Prison to serve a 1.5-year term because she practices Falun Gong.
Ms. Huang Dagui was arrested on September 3, 2025, for distributing information about Falun Gong. She was convicted by the Shunqing District Court on May 9, 2026, and was transferred to prison in August.
Ms. Huang and her husband relied on her monthly income of about 1,000 yuan from doing some cleaning jobs. Her prison sentence leaves her husband in a dire financial situation.
Past Persecution
Ms. Huang heard about Falun Gong in 2001, when she was detained for selling fake invoices. A Falun Gong practitioner who was held with her explained that the persecution was illegal and that Falun Gong taught practitioners to be good people. She started practicing after she was released.
Ms. Huang was arrested on April 11, 2002, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. While she was held at the Yuechi Detention Center, the guards handcuffed her to a bed for 17 days and didn’t allow her to use the restroom. She struggled to walk and her limbs shook uncontrollably after she was released from the bed. She was arrested again on April 8, 2003, and held in a brainwashing center for an unknown amount of time.
Ms. Huang was arrested on April 24, 2016 for distributing information about Falun Gong. More than 20 officers searched her workplace and home on May 13, 2016. They submitted her case to the Jialing District Procuratorate in late July, and she was tried by the Jialing District Court on November 28. The judge sentenced her to one year and fined her 2,000 yuan on January 10, 2017. She was released on April 23, 2017.
Ms. Huang’s was next arrested on the evening of March 11, 2019, after she was reported by a co-worker for distributing Falun Gong materials. Agents from the Shunqing District 610 Office and officers of the Beihu Police Station broke into her rental unit and confiscated her Falun Gong books, computer, and cell phone. She was held at the Nanchong City Detention Center for 12 days.
Ms. Huang was harassed by five officers from the Tianping Town government on July 22, 2021. They ordered her to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong. She refused to comply.
Ms. Huang was arrested again at 7:30 a.m. on November 15, 2021, after someone reported her for distributing information about Falun Gong in her neighborhood. The police and residential committee staff confiscated her Falun Gong books. She was released around 6 p.m. that evening.
The residential committee staffers harassed Ms. Huang four times in 2022, and attempted, unsuccessfully, to force her to renounce Falun Gong.
