(Minghui.org) Ms. Xia Jiesheng, 75, who lives in Chongqing was arrested on March 18, 2026, for mailing a letter to a local police chief in July 2022, urging him to not participate in the persecution of her faith, Falun Gong. She is currently held in the Beibei District Detention Center.
Ms. Xia’s latest arrest was preceded by two back-to-back arrests, which also stemmed from her letter to the police chief. She was home around 8 a.m. on September 22, 2022, when someone knocked her door. A woman who claimed to be from the property management office said Ms. Xia’s apartment unit was leaking water downstairs.
As soon as Ms. Xia opened the door, the woman and five plainclothes officers barged in. The police said they were from the Yuzhong District Police Department and said their big data surveillance network caught her mailing the said letter at the Datong Street Post Office in their jurisdiction in July 2022.
After raiding her home, the police took Ms. Xia to the Wanglongmen Police Station around 9 a.m. for interrogation. They gave her 15 days of administrative detention and fined her 1,000 yuan (neither of which was enforced). The Tushan Police Station in her home district of Nan’an was then notified to pick her up. She returned home around 3 p.m. (on September 22, 2022).
Around 11 a.m. the next day (September 23, 2022), Ms. Xia received a call from someone from the local street committee, asking her to go to the property management office to “verify something.” She did not go, but was once again deceived into opening the door for the police. Four plainclothes officers from the Yuzhong District Police Department, three of whom were at her home the day before, and a woman property manager, took pictures of her home and searched everywhere.
Ms. Xia was again taken to the Wanglongmen Police Station for interrogation. She was released at 3 p.m.
Past Persecution
Ms. Xia is a former manager of the Shuangqiao Plastic Factory and later served as a village vice-secretary. She won multiple awards for being an excellent business executive and government official. Her professional achievements however were overshadowed by her various ailments, including compression fracture. She had to rely on medications, and her family struggled to cover her medical expenses.
After she took up Falun Gong in November 1997, Ms. Xia’s illnesses disappeared and she felt energetic. She also learned to be a better person and enjoyed a happy family life.
Ms. Xia’s world was turned upside down when the communist regime started to persecute Falun Gong in July 1999. Simply for upholding her faith, she was repeatedly arrested. Officers from the Nan’an District Police Department intercepted her at the Chongqing Railway Station on May 10, 2000, when she was about to board a train to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was held at the Nan’an District Detention Center for one month.
Officers from the Xuantanmiao Police Station arrested Ms. Xia on September 27, 2000, and held her at the Tushan Town Police Station and the Nan’an District Detention Center for one month. After that, they sentenced her to one year of forced labor at the Maojiashan Women’s Labor Camp.
More than ten officers from the Danzishi Police Station and the Tushan Town Police Station broke into the Yuxia Plastic Factory and arrested Ms. Xia, who was working there at the time. They took her to the Jingkou Brainwashing Center. She was forced to watch videos that smeared Falun Gong all day. By the time she was released six months later, her weight had dropped from 159 lbs to 110 lbs. She also vomited blood for many days after she returned home.
Ms. Xia was arrested at home on May 16, 2011, by officers from the Tushan Town Police Station and the Nan’an District Police Department, secretary Yang Wei from the Xinglongwan Community, and over 10 auxiliary police officers. They held her at the Wangxiangtai Brainwashing Center for more than two months.
Several plainclothes officers from the Chongqing Police Department arrested Ms. Xia on September 8, 2012, and instructed the Tushan Town Police Station to take her to the Shibanpo Detention Center. After she was placed in criminal detention for one month, she was taken to the Wangxiangtai Brainwashing Center. She was eventually released on house arrest on November 27, 2012.
Two officers from the Tushan Town Police Station, four from the Nan’an District Police Department, and two staffers from the Xinglongwan Community broke into Ms. Xia’s home at 11:30 a.m. on March 26, 2019. They claimed that the Chongqing Police Department notified them that another practitioner exposed her. She asked to see a search warrant but they refused to show her one.
The police ordered her son to sign some paperwork. He had to catch a train and left without signing. Her sister and brother then arrived after they heard what happened. The police forced her sister to sign the paperwork and then they searched her home. They confiscated about 20 Falun Gong books, a laptop, and two cross-stitch wall designs which had the words “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.”
