(Minghui.org) Ms. Li Guiqin who lives in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, was sent to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison to serve a one-year term because she practices Falun Gong, Minghui.org learned recently.

Ms. Li, who is in her 70s, was arrested on August 20, 2025, and detained for one month at the Dezhou City Detention Center. The police did not release her on September 21 as promised. Instead her family received a court notice saying that she was sentenced to one year in prison. They were not told when she was indicted, tried, or sentenced. The detention center also barred them from visiting her.

Ms. Li was transferred to prison around late September 2025. According to an insider, some officials (unclear whether they were prison guards, police officers, prosecutors, or judges) attempted to extort a huge amount of money from her family, likely in exchange for her release on parole.

This is not the first time that Ms. Li has been targeted for her faith. She was previously arrested in 2013 and detained for an unknown amount of time. She was arrested again on August 20, 2015, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials in nearby Ningjin County. The police extorted 5,000 yuan from her and released her that night.
