(Minghui.org) I’m 57 years old, and I’ve practiced Falun Dafa for 29 years. Due to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution of Falun Dafa, which began in 1999, my wife and I were arrested and held in a detention center. We were later illegally sentenced to long prison terms.
Special Treatment
When I first arrived at the detention center, the inmates had me stand by the wall and demanded to know why I was brought in. I said, “I practice Falun Dafa.” They paused for a moment, told me to sit in the back, and did not give me a hard time.
I said, “I haven’t eaten for two days. Do you have anything to eat?” They gave me a steamed bun and a bag of instant noodles. After I ate, I said, “Can I take a shower?” They said I could.
An inmate later told me, “They sent two practitioners here before, and both were good people.” I understood that the practitioners’ acts of kindness created this environment for me.
I later saw all the new arrivals were verbally abused and strip-searched, but I was spared those things. In every cell, the inmates in the first three beds were in charge. The inmate in the first bed was the leader. The leader in my cell understood the truth about Falun Dafa.
I clarified the truth to the leader and four other inmates and helped them quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations. I clarified the truth to the inmates, and no one stopped me. No one forced me to memorize the detention rules, either.
Moreover, a minor leader shouted in the exercise yard, “Falun Dafa is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!” and no one bothered him. He had good enlightenment quality and asked me, “I shouldn’t be singing the national anthem, right?”
I replied, “You shouldn’t.”
Eight days later, before I was transferred to another cell, the leader told me, “You’re a very sincere person. All you Falun Dafa practitioners are good people.”
“You Should Let Everyone in the Cell Know the Truth”
I arrived at the new cell, which was put together very recently. That night, the leader wanted everyone to tell him why they were there. When it was my turn, I said, “I practice Falun Dafa. Anyone who wants to learn more, please feel free to talk to me.”
All three leaders said, “You can’t spread your message here.” I did it discretely anyway and quickly helped four inmates quit the Party.
A few days later, a college student was brought in for spreading pornographic websites. He said, “I noticed that in our cell, you are the most educated and refined, and I’d like to chat with you.” He said he knew about Dafa and had quit the Party when he vacationed in Taiwan. He wanted to learn more about Dafa.
I explained that Falun Dafa teaches people to follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and that I hadn’t needed any medicine for over two decades. I explained the flaws in the Tiananmen Square self-immolation incident and how catastrophic the CCP’s political campaigns were. I also told him about the “Hidden Character Stone” in Guizhou Province.
He said, “You should tell these things to everyone in the cell.” I said the leader wouldn’t allow it. He replied, “I’ll take care of it. I know him well.”
He took me to the leader, and I clarified the truth to him. The leader did not immediately agree to quit the CCP, but from then on, I was allowed to talk about Dafa to the inmates.
One day, in the exercise yard, I told the leader about the “Hidden Character Stone.” He asked me, “Is it real? My relative in Guizhou told me about it, but I didn’t believe him.” I said it was and that the admission ticket has it as the cover image. He finally agreed to quit the CCP.
The TV had no signal one day, so there was nothing to watch. The leader asked me to clarify the truth about Falun Dafa to the inmates in our cell.
One morning, the college student told me, “Last night I dreamed the Queen Mother of the West sent me to the human world to hunt demons. I wonder what it means.”
At 9 a.m. that morning, he was called to appear in court. He was sentenced to one year of probation and released. The resident procurator originally said he would be sentenced to between three and seven years, but he was only held for four months before he was released. I knew he was blessed for helping me clarify the truth.
When everyone in the cell had learned the truth about Dafa and quit the CCP, I was transferred to another cell.
“I Finally Understand: Because Master Is Good, Falun Dafa Is Good!”
After I was transferred to the new cell, I helped everyone quit the CCP. I could do the exercises and clarify the truth freely.
The bed next to mine belonged to a young man from Jilin Province. He was very guarded around me. I clarified the truth to him and told him about the staged Tiananmen Square self-immolation.
He said, “You don’t seem to be anything like what they say on TV. To be honest, I haven’t slept well for two nights, because I was afraid of you.” [Translator’s note: The CCP has been slandering Falun Gong practitioners, labeling them as lunatics who harm people, in order to justify the persecution.]
From then on, he said, “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good. Falun Dafa is a righteous Fa” every day.
I taught him poems from Hong Yin. He has a poor memory, but he worked hard to memorize them.
He kept wondering why so many people practice Falun Dafa. One night, he exclaimed, “I finally understand: Because Master is good! Falun Dafa is good.”
He was blessed for his positive view of Dafa. The resident procurator said he would be sentenced to five years or more, but he was only held for one year and nine months before he was released.
“I Came Here to Meet You”
A repeat offender for assault was transferred from another cell. He was in his 30s, and he wore shackles. He jumped on my bed and asked, “Do you practice Falun Gong?” I said I did. He crossed his legs and said, “I came here to meet you. I finally got to meet a Falun Gong practitioner.”
He said his uncle worked in Beijing, and many people in his circle bypassed the internet firewall to watch unbiased news and learn about Falun Gong. He agreed to quit the Youth League. He really respected me and prepared warm water for me to bathe every day.
A Man From Yunnan
A young man from Yunnan Province was brought in for fighting. At first, he refused to accept what I told him, but over time, when he noticed that I was different from the others and they all respected me, he began to accept the truth about Dafa and eventually quit the Young Pioneers.
He treated me as a close friend. At the trial, the judge tried to coerce him into admitting to a crime he didn't commit and threatened him with a long sentence if he refused to cooperate. He insisted that he did not commit the crime. He told me, “I was influenced by you. I can’t go against my conscience and admit to something I didn’t do.”
In the end, he was sentenced to a month less than the ringleader. Before he left, he asked me to teach him 10 poems from Hong Yin, and he memorized them all.
“When I Get Out, I’ll Read Dafa Books”
One day, Old K, who was convicted of murder, was brought in. His wife cheated on him, so he beat her and broke six of her ribs. She hanged herself the next day. Old K insisted that he did not kill her.
He had a skin disease, and no one wanted to lend him a washbasin, but I did. He had a strong mentality, and he joked around. I clarified the truth to him, but he initially ignored me.
He was interrogated every day, and in the end, he said he killed his wife. When I asked him why, he said that the police tortured him and deprived him of sleep, and that they promised to let his son visit him and have his wife’s body cremated.
But the police did not do what they promised. He knew he had been deceived. I comforted him and said, “They fooled you, just like the CCP fools everyone so they can persecute Falun Dafa.” He agreed with what I said and quit the Young Pioneers.
I asked him if he killed his wife or not. He replied, “I did not. She hanged herself.”
I advised him, “Recite ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good’ every day.”
When his indictment was issued, a life sentence or death were recommended. The court assigned him a lawyer before the trial started. After reviewing the case files, the lawyer found many points of doubt. He challenged the police testimony and argued that Old K should only be sentenced to three years for intentional injury.
I told Old K, “Your reciting ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good’ worked.”
The next day, the police officer in charge told him, “As long as your mother-in-law and your son write a statement of forgiveness, you will be given a suspended sentence and go home.”
That day, the evening news on TV reported an outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Old K said to me, “What you said really worked! Yesterday you mentioned a plague, and today it’s here. When I get out, I’ll read Dafa books, and I’ll have my son read them too!”
Stories in the Quarantine Zone
After I was transferred to prison, I was quarantined for a month due to the COVID pandemic. I clarified the truth to an inmate on duty, and he quit the CCP. He discretely brought me a razor at night.
Two young inmates brought me water every day. One of them said, “I know Falun Dafa is good. I also know the CCP will collapse.” The other inmate immediately agreed to quit the Party.
Many inmates, while passing my cell, would shout softly, “Falun Dafa is good!” I acknowledged them.
One night, I dreamed of two three-year-old boys playing in the mud, who claimed to be my children. The next day, a young inmate who had a tattoo that read “The highest good is like water” took me to the toilet and asked me, “People outside of China practice Falun Dafa openly, why is it not allowed in China?”
I clarified the truth to him, and he immediately quit the Party.
A young man was brought in. I told him about Dafa, and he quit the Young Pioneers. It occurred to me that my dream was perhaps reminding me to wake up these two “boys.”
When my quarantine was over, I was moved to a zone that was dedicated to persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. I suffered four years of brutal torture and escaped death by a hair’s breadth.
While I was in the detention center and prison, I helped 143 people quit the Party and its affiliated organizations.
