(Minghui.org) A Beijing man was recently sentenced to a 14-month prison term for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhu Guangjun was arrested on September 14, 2025, by officers from the Shunyi District Domestic Security Office and the Dasungezhuang Police Station. The police suspected him of putting up Falun Gong materials in Dasungezhuang Town because his motorcycle was videorecorded by street surveillance cameras.
Mr. Zhu was put in criminal detention at the Shunyi District Detention Center the next day, and a formal arrest warrant was issued on October 21, 2025.
When his lawyer visited him, he revealed that he had been having dangerously high blood pressure, which didn’t go down after he took hypertension medication. His family then applied to have him released for medical treatment, but the police denied it, unless he promised that he wouldn’t distribute Falun Gong materials again.
Mr. Zhu appeared in the Shunyi District Court on March 16, 2026. His lawyer entered a not guilty plea for him. He also testified in his own defense and argued that he hadn’t violated any laws by practicing his faith.
The judge sentenced Mr. Zhu to 14 months with a 3,000-yuan fine on April 15, 2026.
This isn’t the first time that Mr. Zhu has been targeted for upholding his faith. He was arrested in late 2000 and given a one-year labor camp term. After being released, he lived away from home to avoid further persecution. He rented an apartment with several other displaced practitioners. One practitioner was later arrested while buying stamps to mail Falun Gong materials, and Mr. Zhu was arrested hours later. As he refused to tell the police who printed the materials, they hung him up by his wrists and beat him. He was later sentenced to five years in prison.
Mr. Zhu was arrested another time on April 11, 2025, for putting up Falun Gong materials. His home was ransacked and he was held in the Shunyi District Detention Center for 13 days.
