(Minghui.org) A 61-year-old man in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, was sentenced to four years with a 6,000-yuan fine on April 30, 2026, for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Mr. Di Jianchao was arrested on July 15, 2025, and put in the Guandu District Detention Center. He appeared in the Wuhua District Court on April 24, 2026, and was convicted six days later. See the first related report for details of his arrest and trial.

Presiding judge He Wen, assistant judges Hu Yong and Chen Qingling, clerk Tong Zhonghua, assistant to the judges Li Chengzhuo, prosecutor Huang Pengwen, and assistant prosecutor Huang Chongqiang signed the verdict. It is unclear if Mr. Di has been admitted to prison.

Some time prior to this latest incidence of persecution, Mr. Di was fired from his job at the Kunming City Shipbuilding Company for practicing Falun Gong. He also served two prison sentences totaling 8.5 years (November 2004 to November 2008 and February 2014 to June 2018).

His wife, Ms. Luo Jiangqin, 58, also a Falun Gong practitioner, was arrested with him in February 2014 and sentenced to three years in the Yunnan Province Second Women’s Prison. Following his latest arrest, she applied to represent him as a non-lawyer defender but was turned down. She was only allowed to attend the hearing as a spectator.
