(Minghui.org) I began reading Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Dafa, in June 1996 and have now practiced Dafa for 30 years. Having served in the army, many of my former comrades have since retired and taken up work in various fields across the country, holding leadership positions at different levels. Some are still active-duty soldiers. When presented with the facts about Falun Dafa and the ongoing persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), their responses have varied.
Last year, Minghui published my article “[Celebrating World Falun Dafa Day] Veterans Are Circumventing China’s Internet Firewall to Learn the Truth.” This year I would like to share several more stories of my former comrades-in-arms on how they bypassed the Great Firewall (overcame internet censorship) to learn the facts and quit the CCP organizations.
A Business Owner
Hui and I once served in the same unit in the army. After we were demobilized, he started his own business. Not long after, he bought a house and I visited him. His house was large and spacious. Hui often came to my home, where I shared information about the persecution of Falun Dafa. Each time he visited, he would read Falun Dafa materials, especially books by the founder Mr. Li Hongzhi. I would show him the books, and, sitting in the north room of my house, which was very quiet, he could read them for entire afternoons.
Using Freegate to access Minghui.org, I showed Hui the facts about Falun Dafa, including how it is practiced in over 100 countries and regions and how the CCP is persecuting it. He understood that practicing Falun Dafa means becoming a better person according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. After learning how the CCP fabricated lies such as the staged self-immolation at Tiananmen Square to defame Falun Dafa, he renounced his memberships in the Party, the Youth League, and the Young Pioneers.
Later, Hui took a position at the district development and reform commission, where he was highly regarded by his superiors and selected as a key candidate for future leadership. His future seemed promising. Having seen through the CCP’s hypocrisy and corruption, however, he resigned from the commission and continued his business ventures.
After some time, I gave Hui a USB drive containing Falun Dafa books, along with Freegate to bypass the internet censorship. He became the first of my comrades to circumvent the Great Firewall and withdraw from the CCP.
A Medical School Instructor Exposes Organ Harvesting, and a Pilot Helps Over 100 People Quit the CCP
Hong, who is also a practitioner, was an instructor at a military medical school. After the CCP’s harvesting of organs from practitioners was exposed in 2005, I was indescribably grieved. Hong and I decided share the facts about Dafa with doctors who were engaged in organ transplants, especially military doctors.
After Hong returned home, she started to collect information online about hospitals, departments, and doctors involved in organ transplants, along with addresses and postal codes. She wrote an open letter to these doctors about organ transplants. Hong then divided the contact information for thousands of doctors among our local practitioners for us to mail out the letters. During that time, we went out every day to mail these letters, using different fonts and different colored pens to write the letters. At that time, the National Security and State Security police were already in control of the postal system, frequently intercepting and destroying truth-clarification letters.
One day, Hong said she had recently met Liang, a former pilot in the military who later became a company manager. After a recent visit to his hometown, Liang collected over a hundred names of people who had withdrawn from the CCP and its affiliated organizations.
A Chief of Staff in the Artillery
One afternoon, I ran into Bing, a former army chief of staff whom I hadn’t seen for over ten years. He had been transferred to the artillery command as a director. After we began chatting, I said, “Bing, there's something I need to tell you. Look at all the recent natural disasters: major earthquakes, floods, and plagues. Natural disasters are warnings in response to the bad deeds the CCP has committed. Quitting the Party is a way to save our lives.”
“I’ve applied to quit several times,” he said, “but it hasn’t been approved yet.”
“How about I give you the pseudonym 'Jun Zhongyuan' (military connection) to help you quit?” I asked. Bing readily agreed.
As the chief of staff and a member of the princelings (also known as the Red Second Generation), he was acutely aware of the corruption within the CCP’s upper echelons and the impending collapse of the Party. I was pleased with his choice. I knew Bing’s health had been poor for some time. Before parting, I wished him well and told him, “In times of crisis, please always keep in mind ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.’” He thanked me for the advice.
Later, I met the Bing’s sister-in-law, whose father was also a high-ranking military officer. We had worked together in the same office, and she had also retired from the military. I gave her software to bypass the internet censorship and asked her to give a copy to Bing.
Before the CCP began to suppress Falun Dafa in 1999, I once gave a copy of Zhuan Falun to the sister, who appreciated the book very much. After the persecution began, personnel from the CCP’s organization department came to my company to check whether any Falun Dafa practitioners worked there. The sister opposed this. After I was fired because of my belief, she and several coworkers invited me out to dinner.
Political Director: “The Articles Were Well Written”
One day, I ran into the director of the political department of my brigade. I wondered if I should I tell him facts about Falun Dafa. After all, he had a lot of influence as he was in charge of officers. During my time in the army, I was rated an outstanding political instructor and was also recognized for my excellent performance in command training and live-fire shooting as part of the General Staff’s training reform.
So I told him that I had been persecuted for practicing Falun Dafa and trying to be a better person according to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The director said, “I often receive such materials in my home mailbox and I’ve read them. The articles are well-written and of a high standard!”
The director was considered the best writer in the military’s organization department where he used to work, and I was happy he could now break away from the CCP’s lies. When we parted, I gave him a DVD exposing the CCP’s staged self-immolation on Tiananmen Square that slandered Falun Dafa and encouraged him to watch it at home. He nodded in agreement.
I was grateful to fellow practitioners who had put those materials in his mailbox. They’d opened his mind and moved his heart, and now he had decided to quit the CCP organizations.
A Veteran Defender Quit the Party
Gang, a retired battalion-level major, was assigned to work in the administrative department of my unit after his demobilization. After the CCP began persecuting Falun Dafa, he said, "Falun Dafa is everywhere. The CCP is terrified by its popularity.” Coming from Shandong Province, he is a typical Shandong man—honest, cheerful, and always willing to help others.
After I went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, I was fired from my job. I went to my former employer and various government agencies trying to address the issue, but I was always turned away. Sympathetic to my plight, Gang suggested I contact the neighborhood committee and ask for a job. “Citizens have the freedom of belief. Practicing Falun Dafa is not wrong; the CCP is wrong,” he said.
Gang’s words made sense. After I was illegally fired, I was placed under the management of the neighborhood committee. I went there as well as to the district demobilization office to explain my situation. The director of the district demobilization office was intelligent and kind. He asked me to contact the organization department of the neighborhood committee and look for a particular section manager. “If the section manager agrees to report this, it will work,” he explained to me.
The section manager recommended that I talk about the situation with the community director. The community director followed up and found me a new job. I was thankful to Gang and the others who helped me.
Gang’s company later went bankrupt, and he lost his job. Through veterans rights protection efforts, he was reassigned to a new job. One day, I met Gang on the bus. He told me he’d had a stroke, and it was very painful.
“Please don’t worry. By sincerely reciting ‘Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,’ you will be blessed,” I said. I helped him quit the CCP organizations and gave him software that could bypass the internet censorship. “Epoch Times has information about Chinese veterans’ rights protection efforts, and you might like it,” I added.
I later ran into a former neighbor who was also a military retiree, and we chatted about Gang. “He is the organizer of our retired military officers,” the neighbor said. “He has bought an RV and takes his wife traveling everywhere.” I was happy to hear that Gang’s health had improved and knew this was a blessing from Dafa for helping practitioners.
The Deputy Director of a Police Station
One morning while distributing Falun Dafa materials, I ran into Dong, a comrade I hadn’t seen for over a decade. We were from the same hometown, and he was now the deputy director of a local police station. This police station was infamous for persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners, and Dong’s name was frequently exposed on Minghui.org. As a result, I sometimes mailed Falun Dafa materials to that police station, and officers also received truth-clarification phone calls from practitioners outside of China.
When we met this time, Dong told me he could bypass internet censorship using a software tool. “Please Leave yourself a way out and don’t participate in the persecution of Falun Dafa anymore,” I urged him. “By withdrawing from the CCP and its affiliated organizations, you can choose a bright future for yourself, your wife, and your children. Look at all the disasters these days—earthquakes, floods, mudslides. Safety is very important for every one of us.” Dong agreed and decided to quit the CCP.
Putting Out a Fire
Sun, my neighbor across the hall, is an active-duty soldier in the district’s armed forces department. I had spoken to both him and his wife about the benefits of Falun Dafa on mind and body. After the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party was published, I suggested they quit the CCP organizations, but they refused.
One day, I heard Sun’s wife screaming, “Help! Fire!” I hurried out and saw their door wide open. She was slumped on the kitchen floor, and black smoke was billowing. I saw that the kitchen exhaust fan was on fire, so I turned off the power and extinguished the fire with water. The exhaust fan had short circuited. Had I waited any longer, the upper cabinets would have caught fire.
The couple were very impressed by what I did. When the wife was desperately pleading for help, no one else came to their aid. As they were thanking me, I said, “Dafa requires us practitioners to be good people. We cannot ignore something like this.”
Not long after, I met Sun again near the neighborhood office. I said, “There are all kinds of disasters. Withdrawing from the Party will ensure your safety.” This time he agreed.
A Veteran Pilot
One day, I attended a gathering of veteran defenders. About 30 demobilized military officers were there. It was the first time I’d been to such an event.
At the time, I had only been home about a month after serving two years of illegal forced labor. After introducing myself, I said, “I was fired from my job because I practice Falun Dafa and live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Citizens have the right to freedom of belief, which is protected by the Constitution. The CCP is violating the Constitution and committing a crime.”
Someone at that gathering who had heard about the persecution of Falun Dafa and sympathized with my plight later called me and said, “My fellow soldier, Zhang, practiced Falun Dafa. When I was a company commander, he was the best soldier in our company. He was beaten to death in the city detention center.”
During the gathering that day, a comrade in a police uniform had one of his arms in a sling. He said that he had been a pilot in the air force. After his unit went bankrupt, at the age of 60, he became an auxiliary police officer at the district public security bureau, just to make a living. I advised him to recite the auspicious phrases and helped him quit the CCP organizations.
Later on, I met him again on a bus. He believed all that I had told him and accepted the software that could bypass the internet censorship.
The Son of a Military Base Commander
While taking a taxi home one day, I asked the driver if he was local. He said he wasn’t, that he actually came here with his family as a child. As we continued chatting, he said his father was the commander of the local army base. Both he and his uncle were in his unit at the time.
“I’ve been to that base,” I said. “The staff has been reduced, and the barracks are now ruins.”
“Yes,” he said, “the losses were enormous!”
As I got out of the taxi, I handed the driver a USB drive: “Please pass this on to your father,” I said. “It contains a 17-episode documentary series called The Real Jiang Zemin. It shows how how Jiang Zemin, as chairman of the Central Military Commission, destroyed the army and ruined the country.”
“Certainly!” replied the driver. “Thank you.”
An Officer Who Participated in the June 4th Massacre
One day I met comrade Wang at the entrance to the city botanical gardens. He was a manager at a company, and I had visited him there before to tell him the facts about the persecution of Falun Dafa.
Wang and I were in the same company in the army. He had been transferred to our unit after the 39th Army participated in the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre of college students. At that time, I was the superior officer, and he was the deputy. Back then, Wang once asked me, "Did you see the video footage of the armored command vehicle that stopped during the June 4th crackdown on Tiananmen Square?”
When I told him I remembered, he said, "I was in that command vehicle at the time.”
I learned later that the 39th Army of the Shenyang Military Region had used that armored command vehicle in the brutal massacre of peacefully petitioning college students. Wang witnessed firsthand the CCP army shooting and killing the university students.
When I met Wang this time, I gave him a USB drive containing videos of the Nine Commentaries on the Chinese Communist Party, software to bypass internet censorship, and other information. Using the tool, he could visit overseas websites dedicated to the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre.
I told Wang that the suppression of Falun Dafa practitioners is much worse than the massacre in 1989. Wang accepted the USB and repeatedly thanked me.
A Division-Level Naval Officer
During the pandemic, my wife was hospitalized with a broken wrist. In the same ward was a teacher named Rong, who had also fractured her wrist and was admitted a day earlier. Rong’s husband was an active-duty officer at a military base, holding the rank of division commander. My wife said to them, “My husband used to be in the military, but he’s retired now.” At the time, my wife’s phone wasn’t working, and meals had to be paid for via WeChat, so Rong’s husband kindly paid for her food. The couple took good care of my wife when I was not able to be there.
During her hospitalization, my wife constantly recited “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” She was discharged after a week, and the swelling in her wrist had subsided. After her discharge, my wife and Rong kept in touch via WeChat. I told my wife to remind Rong to recite the auspicious phrases for a quick recovery. I also asked my wife to send Rong a photo of her own wrist that had healed. Rong was impressed, recited the phrases often, and her wrist soon recovered as well.
After Rong’s husband retired, they moved to Beijing. Their daughter, who’d graduated from university, remained in Beijing, hoping to start a family. But after she married, she was unable to fall pregnant. They were worried, so I told my wife to remind them to recite the auspicious phrases. They followed this advice, and soon Rong’s daughter became pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful girl. The young couple also bought a house.
Before departing for Beijing, Rong and her husband came to see us with a box of fruit and over 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of hazelnuts. My wife also gave them gifts. I presented each of them with a USB drive containing information about Falun Dafa and how to bypass the internet censorship, wishing them a lifetime of peace.
