(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioners held a rally in front of the Chinese Embassy on May 30 and 31, 2026, to call for the immediate release of practitioners who were recently illegally detained by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Their family members spoke at the event.

On the afternoon of April 15, the police station in Changjiang New District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, dispatched a large number of police and arrested around 17 local Falun Gong practitioners and illegally detained them. On May 1, when the 15-day detention ended, the police transferred practitioners Tong Shuying, Wang Youmei, and Wu Guihong to the Wuhan First Detention Center and said they were under criminal detention. The police did not show any documents or allow the family to visit. The lawyer hired by the practitioners’ families was denied access to the case documents. The Detention Center refused to provide any information about the police who were involved.

A representative from the Washington DC Falun Dafa Association issued a statement at the rally, “We request the CCP to immediately stop persecuting Falun Gong andrelease all people who are imprisoned for their faith.”

Tong Shuying’s sister, Tong Shuzhen, who lives in the US, said that since the persecution was launched in 1999, she and her sister “were under long-term surveillance, suffered home ransacking multiple times, and were arrested and detained multiple times.” “My sister was handcuffed and hung from windows for a long period of time at the labor camp. The handcuffs cut into her flesh,” she said. Her sister was illegally detained and persecuted again this time, and she is very concerned for her safety.

Tong Shuzhen urged the US government and people to pay attention to the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong and voice support for the practitioners who are persecuted in China.

Alisa Zhou, a practitioner in the US who works in accounting, asked the CCP to immediately release her mother, Wang Youmei, as well as all illegally detained practitioners, and stop the persecution.

Wang Youmei began practicing Falun Gong in early 1999. Her long-term gynecological diseases were resolved. Under the guiding principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, she became considerate and had a happy family. This is the fifth time she’s been detained since the persecution began. She was sent to a brainwashing center where she was persecuted to the point of suffering a mental collapse. She was later sent to the Wuhan detention center for 30 days.

Alisa Zhou said that since she is living in a free environment and can freely practice Falun Gong, she needs to raise her voice for the practitioners who are persecuted in China. “It is not wrong to uphold one’s faith and strive to be a good person. Falun Gong practitioners should not be forced to choose between faith and life,” she said.

Alisa’s employer, Gary, also made a call to the office of Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland and asked him to pay attention to China’s persecution of innocent people and the CCP’s state-sanctioned forced organ harvesting. The senator replied and wrote, “I was extremely appalled and indignant to hear about the Chinese government’s persecution of these innocent Falun Gong practitioners. The United States should take the lead in condemning the Chinese government’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners, because these innocent practitioners constantly face the danger of being killed to be used as organ transplant donors.”

During the rally on May 30, democracy advocates also held events in front of the Chinese Embassy. Zhang Aibin from Wuhan shouted through a loudspeaker, “Falun Dafa is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!” He and some other democracy advocates signed the petition for the bill, the Falun Gong and Victims of Forced Organ Harvesting Protection Act, which has been introduced in the Senate.

Former Chinese human rights lawyer Li Shuangde said that the CCP’s acts of kidnapping, arresting, extending detention, refusing family visits, and denying lawyers’ review of case files for Wang Youmei, Tong Shuying, and others all violated the law. He said, “Falun Gong practitioners studying the Fa, practicing the exercises, sharing experiences, or clarifying the truth are all legal and are within the legitimate rights of citizens. According to Article 36 of the Constitution of China, Chinese citizens are entitled to enjoy freedom of religion.”

The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong issued a warrant and declared that the main responsible agencies and persons involved in the arrest of 17 practitioners, including Wang Youmei and Tong Shuying, will be investigated.

The people involved in arresting practitioners in the Changjiang New District are: Zhang Zhongjun, Wuhan Secretary of the Municipal Political and Legal Affairs Commission; Zhou Bin, Executive Deputy Secretary and Director of the Municipal Office for Comprehensive Management of Social Order; Deputy Secretary Dong Qifeng; Yu Jianjun, Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission in Changjiang New District; Executive Deputy Secretary Cheng Zhuang; Deputy Secretary Guan Yuesheng; Meng Donghua, Director of the Police Station of Changjiang New District; Political Commissar Fu Guoping (former Wuhan Head of Domestic Security Brigade of Police Station); Wang Jianbo, Director of the Sub-district Office of Yangluo of Changjiang New District; Wang Jun, Chief of the Yangluo Police Station; and Deputy Chief Wang Dong.

Falun Gong practitioners warned the perpetrators that whoever commits these crimes will be held responsible—whether they are individuals who directly persecute practitioners or encourage others, they are equally guilty. The responsible persons listed above will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice—no matter where they are or how long it takes.
