(Minghui.org) An elementary school teacher in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, faces trial because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Wang Xiaomei was arrested around 7 a.m. on December 9, 2025. The police waited outside her apartment building and arrested her when she left for work. They took her back inside her home and ransacked it. No search warrant was presented.

Ms. Wang was taken to the Xinhua Police Station for interrogation and then admitted to the Shijiazhuang City Second Detention Center, where she has been held since.

In March 2026, the Gaocheng District Police Department submitted Ms. Wang’s case to the Gaocheng District Procuratorate, which then forwarded it to the Jinzhou City Procuratorate. Jinzhou is a county-level city under Shijiazhuang. Both the Jinzhou City Procuratorate and Jinzhou City Court have been designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the greater Shijiazhuang area.

The Jinzhou City Procuratorate returned Ms. Wang’s case to the Gaocheng District Police Department in April, citing insufficient evidence. The police resubmitted the case in May. On June 23, 2026, the Jinzhou City Court notified her family that they had accepted the case.

Ms. Wang’s lawyer scheduled an appointment with a court clerk for June 30. However, the clerk only accepted the lawyer’s power of attorney and refused to approve a family member of Ms. Wang’s as her defender. The Chinese Criminal Procedure Law states that any family member or friend can be the defender, but the clerk claimed that only immediate family members would be permitted to do so.
