(Minghui.org) A woman in Dongying City, Shandong Province, was sentenced to six months in June 2026 because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Liu Bingfang, an employee of the Shengli Oil Field, was arrested by a plainclothes officer on April 9, 2026, while she talked to people about Falun Gong at a bus station. She was issued a formal arrest warrant on April 22 and was sent to the Dongying City Detention Center.
The Dongying City Court held a hearing on June 16. The prosecutor accused Ms. Liu of “using a cult organization to undermine law enforcement,” but failed to specify which law enforcement had allegedly been sabotaged because she owned Falun Gong books or talked to others about her faith.
No law in China criminalizes Falun Gong or labels it a cult. Still the court sentenced Ms. Liu to six months not long after the hearing. She was admitted to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison.
The prison is notorious for torturing jailed Falun Gong practitioners (see the related reports for details). Not long after she was admitted to prison Ms. Liu developed high blood pressure and a rapid heartbeat.
Ms. Liu was previously given three years of forced labor after she was arrested in April 2008. She endured brutal torture at the Wangcun Women’s Prison. The guards there also deprived her of sleep for long periods of time and forced her to do hard labor.
