(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old woman in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, stood trial around May 2026 because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.
Ms. Hu Yaping was arrested on June 11, 2025, and put in criminal detention at the Wuhan City First Detention Center the next day. Her case was submitted to the Jianghan District Procuratorate on August 20 and transferred to the Hanyang District Procuratorate on September 2. The prosecutor indicted her in late September.
In July 2025, Ms. Hu’s husband filed complaints with the Jianghan District Procuratorate and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate against the Jianghan District Police Department officers for arresting her without any legal basis. He didn’t receive a response.
An officer from the Wansong Police Station called Ms. Hu’s husband around December 10, 2025, and ordered him to report to them for deposition. He went on December 16, and was pressured into becoming a prosecution witness against his wife despite his intention to serve as her non-lawyer defender.
The Hanyang District Court held a pre-trial hearing on December 24, 2025. Ms. Hu stood trial in either May or June 2026. It is unclear what kind of plea her lawyer entered for her. Other details of her trial also remain unknown.
Ms. Hu was the director of the Infection Control Department of the Dongxihu District People’s Hospital. After she took up Falun Gong in 1996, her heart condition, neck problem, anemia and ovarian cyst disappeared. When her health improved, her work performance improved and she won many awards.
After the persecution of Falun Gong began in 1999, Ms. Hu remained firm in her faith and was fired by the hospital. She was also repeatedly arrested prior to her latest persecution episode. See the related report for details.
