(Minghui.org) The Luoyang City Intermediate Court in Henan Province ruled recently to uphold the six-year prison sentence of a local woman because she pracices Falun Gong.
Ms. Han Jianying, 53, was a physician at the Mudan Maternity Hospital in Luoyang and currently practices medicine at an unknown facility. She took up Falun Gong in early 1999 and her health soon improved. After the persecution of Falun Gong began months later, she stopped practicing due to the intense pressure. In the next 11 years, she developed more than ten diseases.
When no treatments worked, Ms. Han resumed practicing Falun Gong in 2010. She made a full recovery and felt compelled to inform the public that Falun Gong was nothing like what’s being depicted in the communist regime’s slanderous propaganda.
Ms. Han was arrested in early August 2024 after two female vendors reported her for using banknotes printed with Falun Gong messages to make purchases. She was detained for 15 days.
Officers from the Jianxi District Police Department seized Ms. Han again in early September 2025 and submitted her case to the Jianxi District Procuratorate three months later.
Ms. Han was indicted in mid-January 2026, and the Jianxi District Court sentenced her to six years on March 6, 2026. The main evidence cited was that “she was given administrative discipline within the past two years.” This likely referred to her 15-day administrative detention in August 2025.
Ms. Han filed an appeal with the Luoyang City Intermediate Court in mid-April 2026, and her family was notified recently that the court ruled against her. She is likely still held at the Luoyang City Detention Center.
Ms. Han is not the first local Falun Gong practitioner that has been sentenced for their faith by the Jianxi District Court in Luoyang.
Ms. Li Miaoneng and her daughter, Ms. Zhang Xiumei, were sentenced to five and three years, respectively, following a court hearing in March 2006.
Ms. Yang Mei, around 80 years old, was sentenced to three and a half years following an arrest in April 2020. She was allowed to postpone serving time due to health reasons. The police seized her again in August 2022, and she was sentenced to another four years. With her previous 3.5-year term, the judge ordered her to serve a combined term of 6.5 years.
Ms. Wang Lijuan, around 73, and her husband, Mr. Li Shulin, around 71, were sentenced to five and four years, respectively, in November 2023.
Ms. Li Yinzhi, around 74 and a retired teacher, was sentenced to one and a half years on August 16, 2024.
Besides these Luoyang locals, the Jianxi District Court has sentenced over 20 out-of-province practitioners in recent years. See the second related report for details.
