(Minghui.org) A 62-year-old woman in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, was sentenced to 15 months for practicing Falun Gong, and will be admitted to the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison.
Ms. Xu Dongyu’s arrest followed that of her husband, a professional painter, while he was on his way to work around 6 a.m. one day in either late October or early November 2025. His co-worker was also abducted. Neither of them practices Falun Gong.
The police confiscated the two men’s cell phones before they arrested Ms. Xu and her daughter-in-law at their shared residence. Her four granddaughters were in school at the time, but her young grandson was seized together with her and her daughter-in-law.
Ms. Xu’s Falun Gong books and printer were confiscated, but the police didn’t produce a list of confiscated items as required by law. Her son, who was not home at the time, received a call from the police ordering him to report to them immediately or they’d send his son to a social welfare institution.
Ms. Xu was taken to a hotel for interrogation. After more than ten days, she was put in the Jiujiang City Detention Center. When they visited her, her family noticed she lost a lot of weight. While her husband was soon released, he and their son, who is also a professional painter, struggled to focus on their jobs. Ms. Xu’s daughter-in-law had to quit her job because she had to take care of her five children, whom Ms. Xu used to babysit.
It is unclear when Ms. Xu was indicted, tried, or sentenced. Her family learned recently that she was sentenced to 15 months and will be transferred to the Jiangxi Province Women’s Prison soon.
Prior to her latest prison sentence, Ms. Xu was repeatedly targeted for her faith. She was deceived into reporting to the local police station in 2002 and was savagely beaten. She had injuries all over her body and she couldn’t stand. The police then put her in the Jiujiang County Detention Center. She was released four months later and extorted 3,000 yuan.
Ms. Xu was arrested again on September 28, 2008, and put in the Jiujiang city Detention Center. Forty-five days later she was transferred to the Nanchang City Labor Camp to serve a two-year term. The guards and inmates beat and cursed her. She was often dragged off her bed and made to sit on the ground. The guards also forced her to do hard labor. She almost had a mental collapse.
