(Minghui.org) The Hefei City Brainwashing Center in Anhui Province, established in September 2025, is located on the fifth floor of the five-story Hefei Suburban District Procuratorate building.
There are two automatic glass doors leading to the brainwashing center from the elevator exit on the fifth floor. These doors require facial recognition by security guards on duty at the entrance.
Hefei Suburban District Procuratorate
The first time Falun Gong practitioners are taken to the brainwashing center, they must go through a whole-body metal detector scan. No ropes or hair clips are allowed.
Falun Gong practitioners are detained separately on the west side of the brainwashing center. Each room’s door is marked with the name of the practitioner’s home district, such as Luyang District, Yaohai District, or Baohe District.
Each room has three single hardboard beds arranged in a row, with the middle bed for the practitioner and the other two for monitors (people dispatched by the practitioner’s local community to watch them at the brainwashing center).
There are several closets, bedside tables, and a bathroom in each room. The practitioner is not allowed to step out at all.
The practitioners are given a physical exam before being put in the brainwashing center. Once there, they have their blood pressure measured by a doctor at 6:30 a.m. every day.
One monitor would go down to the cafeteria on the first floor to eat breakfast every morning, before returning to the fifth floor with the practitioner’s breakfast. Another monitor then goes to the cafeteria to eat breakfast.
During the day, there are people who come to “work on” the practitioner, attempting to make her/him renounce Falun Gong. Sometimes the practitioner is taken to a classroom on the fourth floor to watch videos slandering Falun Gong. Instructors Zhang Lin and Huang Qijun ordered the practitioner, who is also forced to wear a red vest, to complete assignments with anti-Falun Gong themes.
A man surnamed Zhang is in charge of the brainwashing center’s daily operations. His supervisor is surnamed Yao. Ge Shixia, a retired staffer from the Hefei City 610 Office, handles the logistics.
Most of the practitioners put in the brainwashing center are under 80 years old. The authorities threatened to send every local practitioner to the brainwashing center until they renounce Falun Gong.
