(Minghui.org) I’d like to tell you about an incident that happened eight years ago. If I did not practice Falun Dafa I probably wouldn’t have had the courage to help.
Our apartment is on the third floor. Around 2 a.m. one night, I heard a girl desperately crying out for help: “Please help me! Somebody, anybody, please help me!” The heartrending screams went on for a few minutes, but no one responded.
I became worried, got up, and wanted to go take a look, but my husband tried to stop me.
I said, “I’m a Falun Dafa practitioner. Our Master told us in Zhuan Falun,
“It is a xinxing issue if you do not help stop a murder or arson when you see it. How will you otherwise demonstrate that you are a good person? If you do not help stop a murder or arson, what will you get involved with?”(Lecture Nine, Zhuan Falun)
I had no fear. I told my family members to close their bedroom doors, and I went out into the hallway.
A man was holding a girl down on the ground, not far from our apartment entrance. When she saw me, the girl yelled, “Auntie, please help me! Help me!”
Looking at me, the man snarled, “We know each other. This is none of your business!”
The girl kept crying, “Auntie, please help me! Help me, please! I don’t know who he is!”
I told the man, “Go away! Or I’ll call the police!”
Seeing I was only a woman and no one else was around, the man ignored me and kept holding the girl down.
I pretended to dial emergency services, and said loudly, “I called 110, how come you’re still here! Leave!”
Hearing this, the man got up and ran away. He was big, about 180 cm (5 feet 9 inches) tall.
The girl got up in tears, and wanted to kneel down to thank me. I stopped her and brought her to my place. I made her a cup of tea and asked why she was out so late at night.
She explained, “I work in a restaurant, and the man started following me when I finished work. I walked into this building, thinking I would be able to get rid of him that way. But he followed me and started attacking me.”
I replied, “No one else in the building came out to help. Please remember that a Falun Dafa practitioner helped you. There’s no need to thank me. You should thank my Master who gave me the courage to risk everything and save you.”
I also told her to always remember and often recite “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good,” to be protected from danger.
Then I walked her home, came back to my place, and breathed a huge sigh of relief. I felt deeply grateful for the courage and compassionate protection Master gave me, which enabled me to take action in a critical moment.
Not long after, a similar incident was reported in the local newspaper. A girl was murdered on the ground floor inside a nearby apartment building just after 10 p.m. one winter night.
The girl’s family lived on the fourth floor of the building. Before she died, she kept shouting, “Mom! Please come and help me!” Everyone in the building could hear her, but no one responded, most likely thinking, “In this day and age, it’s best to mind one’s own business.”
The girl’s parents also heard her screams for help, but they ignored them thinking the girl could not possibly be their daughter as she was living in a college dormitory and would not be out at that time of night.
The girl’s screams for help lasted five or six minutes, then went quiet. She was only 18 years old when she died.
Many people were quick to blame her parents, saying things like, “Your daughter was being held down and screaming for help. Couldn’t you tell from her voice that she was your own daughter? She was calling her mom to help her. Her mom lives in that building. How could you not do anything to help her?! Can you imagine how terribly scared she was in those moments? You’re so selfish and coldhearted. Now you’ll spend the rest of your lives living in pain and guilt.”
This tragic incident also exposes the terrifying extent of the self-interested, self-serving attitude that has taken hold among Chinese people today.
Had I not taken action to help the girl in my apartment building, her life would have been in grave danger. If I didn’t practice Falun Dafa, I too might not have had the courage and kindness to help her.
I share these two incidents with people while I clarify the truth about Falun Dafa.
When I talk with young women, I also tell them about the moral decline in society, warn them not to go out on their own at night, and pay more attention to their safety. As for parents with young children, I say that society is pretty chaotic these days and they should keep a close watch on their children.
I hope that more and more people will learn how wonderful Falun Dafa is so they will be blessed and have a bright future.
