(Minghui.org) Recent reports indicate that Ms. Li Yuhua, a 66-year-old resident of Jilin City, was illegally sentenced to eight years in prison for carrying currency with the words “Falun Dafa is good” printed on it. She is imprisoned at the Jilin Province Women's Prison.
Arrest and Trial
Police from the Hadawan Police Station arrested her on the morning of October 16, 2014 while she was on her way home. At the police station, they searched her and found 648 yuan in cash. One of the bills had the words “Falun Dafa is good” printed on it.
Then the police and officers from the local 610 Office brought her back to her home and ransacked the place. They confiscated a computer, a printer, four cell phones, and all the cash, more than 3,000 yuan. They also took her cash card and her ID. The belongings have not been returned.
Ms. Li was tried at Changyi District Court on December 17, 2014. The prosecutor had only the one yuan bill as “evidence,” yet she was sentenced to eight years. Her defense attorney, designated by the court, tried to defend her innocence but was stopped by the judge.
Past Persecution
Ms. Li is retired from the Jilin City Mine Construction Company. She had been arrested twice before. In 2000, she was arrested for appealing for justice for Falun Gong. She was arrested again in 2010 and sent to a brainwashing center. She was forced to watch videos that defamed Falun Gong every day at the center and was forced to write statements to renounce her belief, which she refused to do. She was harassed and threatened constantly.
