(Minghui.org) A Tianjin woman detained for her faith has been suffering from a slipped disc for weeks, but the authorities have refused to release her on medical parole.
Ms. Li Jianchun was arrested on May 12 of this year while hanging up banners with messages promoting Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Her lawyer wasn’t granted a meeting with her until June 3. He was surprised to see her carried out on a stretcher. Ms. Li told him that she had a relapse of her slipped disc due to mistreatment at Wuqing Detention Center.
Ms. Li’s condition deteriorated quickly. She was no longer able to move her body when her lawyer visited her again five days later. She was in excruciating pain, but the guards kept her handcuffed.
The lawyer filed a request for Ms. Li’s medical parole right after the meeting, but to date the authorities are still refusing to release Ms. Li.
Ms. Li was once given 2.5 years of forced labor in 2004 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. She sustained severe injuries during her detention and almost became disabled.
Her family is extremely concerned about her well-being. They are calling for her immediate release so that she can receive medical care.
