(Minghui.org) Twelve Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun City, Jilin Province were targeted for their faith between July 15 and 20, 2020, prior to the 21st anniversary of the persecution of the spiritual discipline that was first introduced to the public in Changchun in 1992.
Two more group arrests took place around Changchun on July 15, including eleven practitioners in Nong’an County (under the administration of Changchun) and eleven arrests in Shulan City (about 120 miles from Changchun).
A group of officers broke into the home of practitioner Hui (last name unknown) around 5 a.m. They confiscated over 90 Falun Gong books and took away the photo of Falun Gong’s founder. Her two tablets, two cellphones, a few flash-drives, media players and keys were also seized. Her husband, a stroke patient, was left at home alone and struggling to care for himself.
Another practitioner, Ms. Dong, was also arrested at around 5 a.m. Not long before her arrest, her husband, Mr. Liu Changkun, passed away after suffering years of persecution for practicing Falun Gong.
At 6 a.m, another group of officers broke into Ms. Ren Shumin’s home and confiscated her more than 100 Falun Gong books and the founder’s photo.
Ms. Zhao Guirong was harassed around 7 a.m. by a group of police officers and community staff. The officers confiscated her nearly 100 Falun Gong books, two laptops and a DVD player. She refused to sign the confiscation list.
Ms. Zhao’s son, Mr. Ma Yi, also a practitioner, was arrested. The officers beat him, hit his head against the wall, and dragged him around on the concrete floor. He had severe injuries on his knees as a result. He was released in the evening.
The police later returned to Ms. Zhao’s home and attempted to force her to sign an unknown form. She wasn’t home and the police left.
Ms. Wang Chunhua was stopped by the police outside her apartment building when she went out at around 8:15 a.m. They searched her bag and asked her to sign her arrest warrant. She refused to comply. The officers brought Ms. Wang back and ransacked her home. Her over 50 Falun Gong books, a few flash-drives and some Falun Gong keepsakes were confiscated. She was released around 4:30 p.m.
Ms. Chen Xiuying went out on the early morning of July 15. The police waited outside of her apartment building and followed her home when she came back around 8:30 a.m. Her nearly 100 Falun Gong books were confiscated. The police stayed at her home until the afternoon.
Ms. Cui Yuqiu and her daughter were also arrested on July 15, only ten months following their previous arrests on September 9, 2019, together with her husband, Mr. Du Jingyi, a lawyer. The mother and daughter were released around 11 p.m. following their earlier arrests, but Mr. Du has remained in custody at Changchun City No.2 Detention Center since. He has been indicted and is facing trial by the Chaoyang District Court.
