(Minghui.org) Two Falun Gong practitioners in Anguo City, Hebei Province who were arrested two months apart for their faith are still being detained.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Jiang Feng was arrested at home on April 22, 2020 by more than ten officers. Her computer, printer, Falun Gong related materials, and even some copy paper were confiscated.
Her family went to seek her release the next morning, but the police didn't allow them to see her. When they returned in the afternoon, the police had already sent Ms. Jiang to the Baoding Detention Center.
The other practitioner, Ms. Ma Huixin, was arrested on June 13, 2020 after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong in a residential area. The police broke into her home from her neighbor’s property and searched it when no one was at home. Some of her Falun Gong related materials were confiscated. She was sent to Baoding Detention Center the next afternoon.
The families of each practitioner hired lawyers to represent them. When the lawyers went to inquire recently about their clients' case statuses, the police were surprised to learn from them that there have been cases of Falun Gong practitioners being released unconditionally in other regions. The police said it was the first time they had seen lawyers representing local Falun Gong practitioners.
The lawyers next went to the detention center to visit their clients, only to be given run-arounds between the detention center and the police station. After rounds of negotiation, the detention center approved their visitation requests and said they could begin to make appointments after July 10.
It remains to be investigated whether the lawyers were able to visit the two practitioners.
