(Minghui.org) It was learned in early October 2024 that a Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province, resident had been admitted to prison to serve a four-year term after being held in a police hospital temporarily due to health reasons.
Mr. Zhao Jun was arrested on February 14, 2021, for talking to people about the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of his faith, Falun Gong. He was sentenced to four years with a 10,000 yuan fine on April 26, 2024. The Mudanjiang City Intermediate Court ruled to uphold his original verdict on June 27, 2024.
Mr. Zhao, who had been out on bail due to persistent high blood pressure, was taken back into custody on July 9, 2024. Since he did not meet the prison admission requirements, the authorities kept him in a police hospital. It is unclear when he was transferred to the Tailai Prison in Qiqihar City in the same province. The prison also denied his family from visiting him.
This is not the first time that Mr. Zhao has been targeted for his faith. He was previously arrested in 2001 and brutally tortured by the police. His right arm became permanently disabled as a result. He was later sentenced to seven years in prison. See the related reports for details of his past persecution and latest ordeal.
