(Minghui.org) A married couple in Luohe City, Henan Province, were recently sentenced to ten years each for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Yang Juncheng (also known as Yang Tianxing), around 60, was arrested on the evening of September 15, 2023, by officers from the Liujiang Road Police Station, Shunhe Street Police Station, and Malu Street Police Station. The police raided his two residences and confiscated 300,000 yuan in cash and other personal items from him.
Mr. Yang’s wife, Ms. Ding Xiangqin, in her 60s, was arrested the next day. After being held at a hotel for over ten days, she was transferred to the Luohe City Second Detention Center on September 28, 2023. Mr. Yang was taken to the same detention center the day before.
Minghui.org recently confirmed the prison sentences of the couple. Mr. Yang has been admitted to the Xinmi Prison and Ms. Ding to the Xinxiang Women’s Prison. Mr. Yang’s father, who is in his 90s and relied on him for care, is now left in a dire situation.
Mr. Yang used to work for the Luohe City Sports Committee, but was later forced to resign due to the persecution. Ms. Ding lost her job at a factory in her 30s at the beginning of the persecution. She was forced to live away from home to hide from the police. While serving a labor camp term in 2001, she lost nearly all of her teeth from the torture. The police also refused to issue her an ID, which caused her tremendous difficulties living a normal life.
Mr. Yang and Ms. Ding are the second couple who were sentenced to ten years each in recent weeks for practicing Falun Gong. In late December 2024, another married couple in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province, Mr. Li Zhuozhong and Ms. Liao Yuanqun, were also each handed down a ten-year term.
