(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province was sentenced to three and a half years in prison and a 10,000-yuan fine on July 25, 2025, for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. She is appealing the verdict.

Ms. Shen Meiyin, born in 1960, is retired from the Zhanyang Machinery Company. Her wrongful conviction stemmed from her arrest on October 8, 2023 during a police sweep. Eleven other Falun Gong practitioners living in the same Huaxi District were also arrested on the same day for publishing solemn declarations on the Minghui.org website. The declarations nullified statements they were forced to write and sign to renounce Falun Gong during their past detentions.

Those 70 or older were released hours later, and the rest were given either administrative or criminal detention. Ms. Shen was given criminal detention by the Pingqiao Police Station on October 9, 2023 and taken to the Sanjiang Detention Center that day. She was issued a formal arrest warrant one month later on November 14.

A local court sentenced Ms. Shen on July 25, 2025. Other details of her prosecution remain unknown.

This is not the first time that Ms. Shen has been targeted for her faith. She was previously given three years of forced labor and nine years in prison.

Three Years of Forced Labor

After the persecution began in July 1999, Ms. Shen’s workplace took her to the local lockup and drug rehabilitation center, and ordered her to renounce Falun Gong. She held firm to her faith and was given three years of forced labor in 2002.

Ms. Shen served time at the Guizhou Province Women’s Labor Camp. Falun Gong practitioners detained there were subjected to various forms of abuse, including being restrained in a spread-eagle position in bed, beatings, being forced to eat feces, pricked with needles, deprived of sleep, injected with toxic drugs, handcuffed behind their backs, having strong lights shone into their eyes, and being made to work for long hours. Many practitioners were maimed or even tortured to death.

Sentenced to Nine Years in Prison

Six officers broke into Ms. Shen’s home at 6 p.m. on April 24, 2014, and confiscated her computer, printer, cash, and other valuables. She was held at the local police station overnight, then moved to the Guiyang City Second Detention Center.

The Huaxi District Court sentenced Ms. Shen to a nine-year prison term in February 2015. She was admitted to the Guizhou Province First Women’s Prison on May 13 of that year.

Ms. Shen and other jailed practitioners were monitored by inmates around the clock. In addition to being forced to work for long hours, the practitioners were also subjected to corporal punishment and mental torment. They were ordered to read and watch programs slandering Falun Gong. When they refused to write statements renouncing their faith, they were beaten or verbally abused.

Other forms of torture included solitary confinement, injection of toxic drugs, electric shocks, being restrained on a bed in a spread-eagle position, force-feeding, sleep deprivation, restriction of restroom use, and denial of family visits.

Ms. Shen was unable to cope at one point, and signed statements renouncing Falun Gong against her will. After she was released ahead of time in February 2022, she published a solemn declaration on Minghui.org on May 26 that year to nullify the statement she was forced to sign in the prison.

The Guiyang authorities searched Minghui.org and discovered Ms. Shen’s solemn declaration. She was arrested on October 8, 2023 and sentenced to another 3.5-year jail term in July 25.
