(Minghui.org) A woman in Baishan City, Jilin Province, has been subjected to various forms of abuse while serving a four-year prison sentence because she practices Falun Gong.
Ms. Yang Shuzhen, in her 50s, was arrested on July 15, 2024, and sentenced to four years months later. Her family was notified of her conviction on January 29, 2025, but they were not told any other details of her prosecution. She was admitted to the eighth division of the Jilin Province Women’s Prison at an unknown time.
Prior to her latest prison sentence, Ms. Yang served a 4-year term at the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison. Her husband divorced her after she was released. She then moved back to her hometown in Jilin Province.
Minghui.org previously reported on how Ms. Yang was tortured in prison following her latest conviction. This report provides newly obtained details about her abuse both before and after her prison transfer.
Following her arrest on July 15, 2024, Ms. Yang was taken to the Baishan City Detention Center. She went on a hunger strike in protest, and was force-fed and given IV drips. The guards put her in solitary confinement and assigned several criminal inmates to watch her. She was often heard screaming, “They are beating me! They are beating me!” A witness reported seeing several of her teeth being pried out. Afterwards she struggled to eat, and the guards only allowed her to get a one-tooth partial denture.
Another insider reported witnessing a torture episode but it is unclear whether it took place in the detention center or in prison. During one force-feeding session, one of Ms. Yang’s teeth was knocked out and she inhaled it. She struggled to breathe and was rushed to a hospital. The doctors removed part of her lung in order to remove the tooth.
After she was admitted to prison, Ms. Yang was assigned to cell seven on the first floor. Because she refused to renounce Falun Gong, she was subjected to various forms of abuse, including long-term sitting on a small stool (see the second related report for details of her suffering) and her restroom use was restricted. It was very rare for her to be allowed sufficient time to have a bowel movement. Dai Yu and Qi Xin, the inmates assigned to watch her, often yanked her up from the toilet, causing the feces to drop onto the restroom floor. They then used her allotted toilet paper to clean it up.
After her buttocks festered due to long-term sitting ( a form of torture), Dai and Qi forced her to stand all day long. They also made her do night duty.
Ms. Yang is not the only jailed practitioner subjected to endless abuse at the Jilin Province Women’s Prison. Another practitioner, Ms. Wang Xiulian, a retired worker, was admitted to the eighth division on February 13, 2026, to serve a 3.5-year term. She died on May 10, at the age of 67.
