(Minghui.org) A woman in Chenxi County, Hunan Province, stood trial on July 21, 2026, because she practices Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Zeng Liuyun, who lived alone, was arrested on October 20, 2025, by officers from the Xianfeng Police Station. They raided her home and took her to the Chenxi County Police Department, which issued a 15-day detention at the Chenxi County Lockup.

According to an insider, the police tapped Ms. Zeng’s phone and discovered that she posted songs with “sensitive information” on a social media platform.

Ms. Zeng’s daughter, who worked in another city, traveled back to Chenxi on November 5, 2025. She waited outside the lockup for hours but did not see her mother. She learned later that her mother had been transferred to the Huaihua City Detention Center that day. Huaihua oversees Chenxi County.

The Chenxi County Procuratorate indicted Ms. Zeng and forwarded her case to the Yuanling County Court around June 2026.

Judge Yao Zukun from the Yuanling County Court held a hearing of the case at the Zhongfang County Court on July 21, 2026. Prosecutor Feng Qiang from the Yuanling County Procuratorate was also present. Both Yuanling and Zhongfang are under the administration of Huaihua City.

Ms. Zeng’s daughter served as her non-lawyer defender. She emphasized that her mother practiced Falun Gong solely for the purpose of becoming a better and healthier person. The defense lawyer also entered a not guilty plea for Ms. Zeng.

It is unclear when a verdict will be reached.

Ms. Zeng is not the only Chenxi County resident that has been targeted for practicing Falun Gong in recent years. Ms. Li Yueying, around 86, was taken into custody on July 8, 2026, to serve a six-month term given in 2023. The elderly woman is currently held in the Huaihua City Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.
